The power of network modelling and simulation is often misunderstood. It allows you to replicate and emulate your live production network environment and make changes “on the fly” and see how the live production environment and user experience of application performance will be like.
It takes the “guess work” out of network upgrades, changes and new project rollouts and mitigates the risk of implementing projects.
Wide Area Network (WAN) emulation can be accomplished by introducing a WAN Emulation device on the Local Area Network (LAN) that imitates the network conditions of the environment being emulated. The device incorporates a variety of network attributes into its emulation model – including the round-trip time across the network (latency), the amount of available bandwidth, a given degree of packet loss, duplication of packets, reordering packets, and/or the severity of network jitter.
It’s not easy to ensure the performance of applications and services in today’s complex enterprise environments. Computrad Europe Ltd predict – with precision – how applications will perform once they’re deployed in any production network environment. By understanding network-application issues in advance you can determine which modifications to applications, services, network or infrastructure are needed to improve performance, robustness and scalability, eliminating the need for lengthy field trials and fix-as-you-go rollouts.
A typical scenario for example could be for a 500 user organisation wanting to roll out a new CRM or Financial application. The existing network is running quite well as it is but since the business is expanding management have already decided they need a new application to cope with the growth and so asks the IT manager to purchase the application of choice and to run this across the existing network infrastructure.
The IT Manager starts to trial the application across the network with a certain number of users or maybe in a lab environment with say 20-30 users.
All seems well and then suddenly the go live day is here. Users turn up to work in the morning and the new application has been rolled out over the weekend to all 500 users.
Then the complaints start to come in to the IT helpdesk. Users are complaining about slow application performance, printing is slow and their usually fast PC’s are now not fast.
Then the finance director calls the help desk and says he too is having similar problems and needs to produce an essential report for month end. He wants to what is going on as he thought that everything was planned and trialled so what is this actual issue ?
The reality is that really no one knows what will happen in a roll out of new applications or change in network infrastructure until it actually goes live in a production environment.
This is a major risk for any IT/Network Manager or director. If the rollout and changeover is not smooth then reputations, jobs and potentially careers are at risk.
Computrad offer their bespoke and unique solution via network simulation and modelling services which reduce and potentially eliminate the risk out of implementing these types of projects.
Computrad offers the following solutions focused on Application Optimisation, Security and Virtualisation
Computrad offers the full range of services around our specialised and focused niches.
